Screening queries
Please make sure you can present a proof of your legal right to work and a proof of address document for your current address.
Please take a look at the PDF list of acceptable documents for the UK. For country-specific documents, please speak to your local Resourcing Partner.
You should take them to your interview with you, or to a Barclays branch, contact centre or other Barclays office. Full details will be included on your invitation for interview.
For US candidates, please note that you will be required to produce evidence of your legal right to work in the US within 3 days of your start date. For India candidates, you may also provide your documentation to be attested at induction.
In most countries, you will receive a link to an online portal from one of our third party screening providers requesting you to log on and complete an online form. You will receive this email once we have received all of your ID documents from your interviewer, and we have validated that they are correct.
In a small number of countries, you will be asked to complete a manual form. Please ensure that you complete this on a timely basis to avoid any delays to your start date and/or for regulated candidates, any delay to commencement of work on regulated activities.
Screening can vary from person to person and will depend on your personal circumstances. If we need to clarify any of your details with you, one of our third party screening providers, or a Barclays member of staff will get in touch with you during our screening process.
Please note that for candidates who have resided overseas, certain background checks can take longer to complete, so you should ensure that you do not delay in providing documentation and completing paperwork, or online screening forms as required.
In most countries, we complete screening in two stages - (a) Stage 1 checks, which are the minimal pre-start checks that we need to complete prior to onboarding a new joiner at Barclays and (b) Stage 2 checks, which need to be completed within 8 weeks of start date.
Note: In certain other countries (e.g. Lithuania; certain regulated hires in the UK; and for hires at BA4 grade and below in South Africa), we complete all screening checks in advance.
Stage 1 - Must be completed 'Pre-Start'
These checks will be completed before we agree a start date with you. They include ID and Legal Right to Work checks, sanctions checks, credit checks and fraud checks.
Stage 2 - Can be completed 'Post-Start'
These checks must be completed within 8 weeks of you commencing employment with us. The checks may include Criminal Record Checks, Company Verification, Employment and Academic referencing and verification of any career breaks that you may have undertaken.
You should expect to receive a communication from us when you have passed screening and for those countries where we screen in two stages, you should expect to receive an update after completion of each stage.
Once we have received confirmation that you have passed the minimal mandatory screening checks, we will be in touch with you to finalise your start date.
Please note; if we need additional information from you before we can pass these checks, you will be contacted either by one of our third party screening providers, or by us directly.

Using the Welcome Portal
The Barclays Welcome Portal is designed to support you leading up to your first day at Barclays. Here, you can review and accept your contract, track your onboarding tasks and find useful information and advice.
- To review your tasks at any time, go to Your tasks
Review your contract of employment
If your contract is ready, please review it and electronically confirm your acceptance so that we can start preparing for your arrival.
The contract will contain a start date, which can be adjusted later on, and is conditional on passing our People Screening process.
People Screening
Like all banking and financial service organisations, we need to complete background and employment checks and verify your ID - we call this People Screening. We use a third-party screening provider to perform these checks.
Everyone at Barclays, regardless of their role, goes through the screening process.
